Creating harsh environments that pathogens cannot survive is what sterilization is all about. Verifying those conditions over an extended period of time is absolutely necessary for safety when using medical devices. It also gives operators confidence in sensitive lab work and equipment. Sensors are used to measure required parameters during operation of an autoclave. Kavlico (a global business division of Custom Sensors & Technologies) has developed a new line of sealed pressure sensors. These can be used with a variety of different gases and fluids compatible with stainless steel operation.
Their robust design allows pressure ranges from 0 to 5000 psi absolute or 0 to 400 bar depending upon the model. They incorporate Kavlico’s oil-filled piezo-resistive sensor technology (PRT) with the state-of-the-art ASIC. These high reliability sensors are designed to operate during over-pressure spikes. They are temperature compensated to exhibit excellent EMI/RFI rejection capability. Suitable industrial applications include the following:
- Refrigerant control and recovery
- Pumps and compressors process control
- Water management
- Hydraulic systems
- Test and monitoring equipment
- Autoclaves and sterilizers
These sensors come with a wide variety of connection options so that they can be configured to meet most end-user requirements. The P250/P251 models operate on 5 Vdc power and provide ratiometric 0.5-4.5 Vdc linear amplified output which is proportional to pressure. The P250R/P251R models operate on 9-32 Vdc and have internal regulators that offer regulated 5 or 10 Vdc linear amplified output (which is also proportional to pressure).
Sensors Are A Small Part Of A Much Larger Business
Custom Sensors &Technology (of which Kavlico is a part) is also a division of Schneider Electric. It is a conglomeration of a variety of industry leading brands including Crouzet, Kavlico, Crydom, and also the former divisions of BEI technologies, including Newall and Systron Donner. CST is headquartered in Moorpark, California. The company provides sensors, controls, and actuation products for the transportation, industrial, aerospace, and defense markets.
Kavlico has been in business for over 50 years. The company was founded in 1958 by a Norwegian immigrant named Fred Kavli. It was originally located in Chatsworth California. In 1986, they moved to their current 40 acre site in Moorpark. The mult-million dollar company became part of CST in 2006.
They design cost effective sensors and transducers to fit a wide array of applications including those that are performance driven. Many of its customers are among Fortune’s Top 500. Their specialty customers include those in the Transportation, Automotive, Industrial, HVAC, Medical, Wastewater, Process control, Power Generation, Aerospace, and Defense markets worldwide. They are a leading original equipment manufacturer for North America and Europe.
Kavlico operates a virtual tradeshow online as part of their website. This allows virtual visitors to see their display of products at exhibits throughout the world. On that note, you don’t have to leave your office to pick out the right autoclave for your lab or hospital either. You can find the information you need to make the right choice online.
